Drunken Driver Who Hurt Cop Is Spared Jail Time

A former real estate agent from East Hampton who injured a town police officer in a drunken-driving crash over Labor Day weekend pleaded guilty to several charges in Suffolk County Criminal Court on Monday and as a consequence will avoid jail time.

The Hedges-Edwards Barn, dating from around 1770, was originally located on the west side of Main Street in East Hampton, where the library now stands. E.J. Edwards first moved it around 1910 to his nearby property on Edwards Lane.

“Man of La Mancha,” the classic 1965 musical, will open at the Quogue Community Hall today and run through April 7. The production is the first fully staged musical in the 34-year history of the Hampton Theatre Company.

Village Eyes Summer Ban on Leaf Blowers

East Hampton Village is considering laws that would vastly restrict the use of gas-powered leaf blowers and other landscaping equipment in the summer months and require landscapers to obtain licenses.

ARF’s network of Operation Cat volunteers provides food, water, and shelter for more than 1,000 cat colonies on the East End, ranging in size from two to 30 cats. The ­caretakers tend to the colonies with at least one daily visit.
